The UK arm of Hilleshog, the global sugar beet brand of Syngenta Seeds, is now based Fulbourn, 3 miles to the east of Cambridge. We share modern, spacious offices with our colleagues from the Sales and Marketing teams of both Syngenta Crop Protection Ltd and Syngenta Seeds Ltd.
Hilleshog sugar beet seed was first sold in the U.K. in 1926, with a dedicated sugar beet breeding station being opened near Norwich in Norfolk in 1936. However, the remarkable success of the company in recent years really took off with the launch of the world's first commercially acceptable genetic monogerm variety, Monotri, in 1966. This variety remained on the U.K. Recommended list for 21 years - an unbeaten record.
As a small, dedicated team, focussed on sugar beet, we work alongside our colleagues from both Syngenta Crop Protection and the Cereal and Field Crops Seeds divisions. We are uniquely placed to provide information on all aspects of the sugar beet crop - from varieties, seeds and seed treatments, through fungicides and crop protection materials, to rotational cropping issues, with input from our colleagues working with the cereals and oilseed crops.
